Anti-wrinkle injections have been around for some time now, which has allowed researchers to review the results of prolonged use.
An interesting study published by the UCLA School of Medicine followed identical twins over a period of 13 years.
Researchers compared the effects of anti-wrinkle injections on the sisters. One twin had regular wrinkle relaxer treatments (Botox). The other had only had two treatments, well before the study began.
As time passed, the sister who received regular Botox injections showed far fewer signs of aging than her sister. The non-treated sister had more highly visible wrinkles on her forehead along with frown lines. She also had far more visible crow’s feet than the sister who had received regular injections.
From this study, the researchers were able to conclude that “Long-term treatment with Botox can prevent the development of imprinted facial lines that are visible at rest. Botox treatment can also reduce crow’s feet.”
The researchers also found that “Treatment is well tolerated, with no adverse events reported during 13 years of regular treatment in this study.”
This research demonstrates that anti-wrinkle injections are effective and safe, as well as being an excellent, non-invasive option to help prevent wrinkles.
Anecdotally, an article published by theface.com shared the stories of women who have been having Botox treatments for more than a decade. Each one explained that they have been having regular injections and plan to continue doing so. One even explained that at age 55, she looks younger than she did ten years ago.
